Mainstream/Alternative Media Outlets

Mainstream Media Outlets are corporations who receive large amounts of funding the government and can be influenced by them as well. Mainstream media tends to all report the same stories often without sources and can twisted to fit a certain perspective or agenda. The reporting can also be bias towards the nationality of the reporting, sometimes trying to encourage sympathy or anger towards in a certain story. Mainstream media outlets usually have a TV outlet, magazine or radio channels to push the news out.

Alternative News Outlets are often smaller outlets that also receive funding from various sources but instead of just reporting the big stories that are already covered by mainstream media, they also report on more underground, controversial stories that aren’t typically heard in the mainstream. Alternative news can also challenge government views as well reports made by mainstream media, often delving deeper and keeping transparency.

Citizen Journalism is first hand reporting, any citizen can use their phone to film or take pictures and upload it to get a completely unfiltered or unedited view of the situation. Citizen journalism needs more awareness as its still quite underrated, but is very important in getting the all the stories out there in an unbiased, and transparent way. There are few websites that support citizen journalism and its approach.
